Snow blowing vs. snow plowing: what actually works on an Ottawa driveway.
Both clear snow. They do it very differently — and for residential driveways that difference shows up at the end of your driveway, along your interlock, and in how much shovelling is left for you.
The short answer
Truck plowing is built for scale — large lots, commercial parking areas and long rural laneways. Snow blowing is built for the driveway in front of a house. A blower throws snow clear of the driveway instead of pushing it forward, which is why it avoids the packed bank across your entrance that most homeowners end up chipping at by hand.
Benny's Lawn Care & Snow Removal is residential only and blower-based by design. Driveways are cleared with professional snow-blower equipment, and walkways, porches and steps are cleared by hand as an optional add-on.

Side-by-side comparison
How the two approaches differ on the things homeowners notice first.

Why the snow bank matters more than people expect
After a City of Ottawa road plow passes, a windrow is already left across your driveway entrance. A truck plow clearing your driveway pushes your own snow toward that same spot, and repeated storms compact it. A blower moves that snow onto the yard instead, so the entrance does not keep growing through the season.
The same logic applies along the edges: a blower does not need to scrape a blade past interlock borders, garden edging or a garage apron to finish the job.
When plowing is the right call
We would rather point you in the right direction than sell you the wrong service. Truck plowing generally makes more sense for commercial parking lots, condo and multi-unit properties, and long rural laneways where there is distance to cover and space to stack snow. Benny's Lawn Care & Snow Removal does not serve those properties — our service is residential driveways, walkways, porches and steps in Ottawa and selected surrounding communities.
Common questions
- Is snow blowing better than plowing for a residential driveway?
- For most Ottawa residential driveways, blowing is the better fit. A blower throws snow across the lawn instead of pushing it into a bank at the end of the driveway, and it can work close to garage doors, walkways and interlock edges where a truck blade cannot.
- Does a snow blower leave a snow bank at the end of the driveway?
- No. A blower discharges snow onto the yard or snow storage areas rather than piling it at the entrance, so the curb cut stays clearer than with a plow that pushes snow forward.
- Can a snow blower damage my driveway or interlock?
- A blower rides above the surface rather than scraping along it, so there is less contact with asphalt, interlock and edging than a steel plow blade. Any surface markers, low edging or fragile features should still be noted on your property file before the season starts.
- Does Benny's Lawn Care & Snow Removal offer truck plowing?
- No. Benny's Lawn Care & Snow Removal is residential only and blower-based. Driveways are cleared with professional snow-blower equipment; walkways, porches and steps are cleared by hand as an optional add-on.
